5 Tips on How to do Thursday Nights like a Local
Summer in Rapid City means the return of many yearly traditions- but my favorite may be the two free events, Summer Nights and Main Street Square Concert Series, every Thursday night from the end of May to the end of August. Two bands play on alternate sides of downtown, and it seems like everyone in town joins in on the party. I love being downtown on Thursday nights for the music, atmosphere, people watching and fun. Here are my tips on enjoying the concerts like a local:
1. Get downtown early
The bands go on at 6:00 p.m. and play until 9:00 p.m., but I suggest getting downtown around 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. It will be easier to find parking, and spaces are free downtown after 4:00 p.m.
2. Grab a bite to eat
Downtown offers tons of great places to get dinner. Stay close to the action and get dinner at one of my favorite spots, Tally’s Silver Spoon.
3. Take the kids through the Regional Health Kidz Zone
Your kids will love the Kidz Zone. Bouncy castles, a carousel, face painting, and the Rushmore Kids’ Cave caving simulator are sure to keep your youngsters entertained.
4. Leave your wallet
Don’t worry about fumbling with cash or cards at the vendors downtown. Nexus Smart Pay is available at the vendors at Summer Nights and many of the other shops downtown. Grab a beer and pay with the press of a fingertip.
5. Stay late
Keep the party going after the music on the streets ends at 9:00 p.m. Firehouse Brewing Co. features live music on their patio starting at 9:00 p.m on Thursday nights. Sometimes you can catch me getting a late night pizza snack and cider on the patio of Independent Ale House or drinking a glass of Cab from Firehouse Wine Cellars after the festivities have started to wind down.
I’m sure you will have a blast exploring downtown on Thursday nights. Be sure to tag #VisitRapidCity on social media to share your Summer Nights experience with us!
