Monumental Goodness In and Around Rapid City
So, this families Achilles heel is ice cream; I cannot tell you how much it is loved in our household! Thank goodness for all the places to go hiking and work it all off - hahaha! Imagine our luck having not one, but two places to get amazing ice cream within 30 minutes of our home in Rapid City!!
The first stop comes with a breathtaking drive up to Mount Rushmore for the timeless TJ's Ice Cream at the Memorial Team Ice Cream Station. This melt-in-your-mouth goodness is based on Thomas Jefferson’s original recipe from 1780 and was the first ice cream recipe in America! It's a locally produced simple vanilla that reminds me of my grandma's homemade ice cream. Trust me, this ice cream is definitely worth the drive and for just $1 you can take the recipe home. Offered alongside the Memorial Team Ice Cream Station is a spectacular view and the Monumental Scoop...home of more monumental ice cream goodness.
The second stop is almost indescribable. Located in Main Street Square is our family’s favorite spot for ice cream anytime of the year. Stepping into Silver Lining Creamery is like walking into a festival of whimsy! The culinary creations are nothing short of fantastic and create a constant party in your mouth! Flavors have included: Dill pickle, Wookie Cookie, Cotton Candy, Candy Cane and the list continues! The best part is that the flavors are always changing, so you never know what fantastical flavors will appear! Perfect for the kid in all of us.
