Stay And Play In Downtown Rapid City

There are many ways to describe Downtown Rapid City. Some say it has the classic small-town America feel, some say it’s vibrant with activities, but the best for new visitors is the phrase “it will surprise you”. Countless times I’ve heard people say that our downtown exceeded their expectations, or they regretted not having enough time to tour all of it. To help future travelers
or even repeat visitors, I’ll give you a taste of what our downtown would be like staying at The Rushmore Hotel and Suites, which is locally-owned with a prime downtown location.

Hungry?

I’m going to start off by describing a sampling of some of the amazing dining opportunities located downtown! Whatever you’re craving during your visit – you’ll find it just a few blocks from The Rushmore Hotel. Without even exiting the lobby you’ll discover the delectable cooking of not one but two restaurants, Enigma and Privé. Enigma’s Range & Reel menu is the newest dining experience that serves exactly what the name states. Choose from menu options like Bison Osso Bucco or melt-in-your-mouth Walleye all at this amazing restaurant. Looking for something with more of a twist? Down the block and across the street you’ll find options like Murphy’s Pub and Grill a contemporary Irish watering hole with an expansive patio full of games and toasty fire pits. Or stroll over to Kathmandu Bistro, which serves flavor-packed traditional Indian entrees. These are just a few of the amazing options located within a one block distance of the hotel.

Thirsty?

Amazing beverages of all types can be found at Privé with its ever-changing martini menu. With the largest selection of bourbon, whiskey, and craft cocktails In Rapid City the Privé features the best of locally-inspired cooking, and delicious desserts. Get caffeinated with a delicious coffee beverage from Essence of Coffee, just a block away from the hotel’s front door. Cool down with an ice-cold beverage from one of the local breweries like Firehouse Brewing Co., which is one block away, or Hay Camp Brewing Co., only a three-block walk from where you’re staying! Don’t forget about Press Start Barcade! Here you can grab a drink and play original video arcade games like Pac Man or Terminator and it’s right across the street from The Rushmore. Or you can stay and play at the hotel by enjoying an adult beverage and live music each weekend at the 445 Martini Lounge!

Like To Shop?

If you’re like me, a great trip should be followed with a one-of-a-kind souvenir to remind me for years to come of the great vacation I had. Downtown Rapid City offers a variety of local shops to help you find that and more! Two blocks from The Rushmore Hotel you’ll find the tall, teal doors of Prairie Edge Trading Company. Inside you’ll shop a vast selection of stunning Native American art, crafts, jewelry, books and more! Go around the corner onto St. Joseph Street and you’ll want to check out Shaviq Boutique and Art Gallery. Here you’ll find locally made t-shirts, jewelry, and art from a variety of local artists. Check out Who’s Hobby House, this is a local favorite and the region’s largest and best hobby store since 1950. Located not even a block away from where you’re staying, and offers a selection of fun new hobbies likes planes, trains, games and more!

Feelin’ Artsy?

Adding to the great food and awesome shops is the colorful and expressive downtown art scene. Make a stop at one of the galleries like the Dahl Arts Center just three blocks away or the Suzie Cappa Art Center which is just one block away. Stroll down Art Alley, one block from The Rushmore Hotel, and admire the youthful, passionate graffiti-style murals creating the alley. Or two blocks away you can sit back and relax watching a movie at the Elks Theatre on the largest screen in the area, where you can admire the unique building features of what used to be an opera house built in the early 20th-century.

What Am I Forgetting?

Top off your experience of Rapid City’s Downtown district with a few must-see and must-do attractions. City of Presidents is a self-guided walking tour that features the past presidents of the United States placed on the corners of downtown. Start your tour outside of The Rushmore Hotel with John F. Kennedy posed holding hands with his son. This fun and educational tour will lead you all across downtown on the hunt to find the next famous face! Another big attraction to see is what we refer to as the heart of Downtown Rapid City – Main Street Square. A casual two block walk from the front door of the hotel you’ll discover its interactive fountains and green turf. Grab an ice cream cone at Silver Linings Creamery and stroll the shops and activities at the square. Take in some of the great parks downtown by renting bikes from The Rushmore Hotel and hitting the trail system that goes through Memorial Park and over to Founder’s Park for a nature hike.

Our downtown is cozy, vibrant and bursting with character, you’ll be surprised with everything you find. Make the most of your trip by staying in the heart of downtown Rapid City at The Rushmore Hotel and Suites.
