A Roll of Sushi for Everyone: Even the pickiest of eaters!
Anyone who knows me knows my love of food. Since I grew up in an Italian family food was the center of every get-together or outing. Whenever we were in Rapid City, we had to find a good place to eat. Since I was a picky eater, my mom always pushed me to try new things. Now I have moved past my disgust for most foods and love trying the new and exciting places to dine in Rapid City!
I avoided sushi for most of my life and my first experience with sushi I made sure I ordered a cooked roll. Needless to say, when I went to Ichiban Sushi Bar and Japanese Cuisine for the first time I was afraid to eat. After a few bites, my fear of seaweed and raw salmon disappeared and I was hooked for life. What’s great about Ichiban is the sushi is fresh, expertly crafted and delicious.
I went back to Ichiban for the first time in a while with my friend Kris. Ichiban has excellent customer service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and seated almost immediately. Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. She brought us water right away, and I ordered some hot tea.
As I looked at the menu, I realized I always order the same thing, the spider roll, but this time I decided to try something different. Since Ichiban has a great selection of cooked and raw sushi a variety of appetizers and entrees I had to take time and read their menu. There are so many great things to eat it took me awhile to read the menu and decide what I wanted to order. Instead of getting my regular spider roll I decided to order something completely different, the Lucky Seven Roll. Since I was being dangerous with my meal I also ordered my favorite appetizer crab poppers, these little pockets of crab and cream cheese are to die for!
As Kris and I waited for our food, we enjoyed each other’s company, and I looked around the room at the beautiful decorations. The authentic Japanese art in the room makes your meal an experience. The waitress was very attentive to our needs and came by frequently to fill our glasses with water. The crab poppers came out first, these bite-sized pockets hold a lot of flavors, the jalapeños and sauce give an added zing to every bite!
Finally, the sushi arrived! I took a bite of my Lucky Seven roll the salmon and bacon created a delightful flavor that danced on my taste buds. Pro Tip: for added flavor to any sushi roll add a little bit of wasabi to your soy sauce. Bonus Pro Tip: a little wasabi goes a long way! When we finished our meal, we sat back for a moment with our full bellies and appreciated the food we just enjoyed.
