The Season Of Fun At The Monument
Hosting around 700 events each year, The Monument (formerly known as the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center) doesn’t mess around when it comes to keeping people entertained in Rapid City. As winter rolls into the Black Hills outdoor events slow down, however, events inside the walls of The Monument heat up. It’s time for a whole new season of fun.
One of the most popular events kicking off a new season is the Rapid City Rush hockey team! The Rush is a professional ice hockey team in the ECHL, and their home games are played on the ice inside The Monument. Games usually take place on Friday and Saturday nights, and like most hockey games the atmosphere is electric. You don’t have to be a Rush fan to appreciate a good game of hockey, but there’s a good chance you’ll become one after attending a game. Check their schedule here and see if any games are going on while you’re in town!
Winter is also one of the best times to catch a great concert at The Monument. Having hosted big names like Bob Seger, Luke Bryan and Elton John, each year they bring in bigger and better artists.
Some of the biggest events in Rapid City take place at this event center are the Black Hills Powwow featuring thousands of Native American singers, dancers and artisans to the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo and Rodeo Rapid City showcasing livestock, PRCA rodeo performances, and a western shopping showcase. There is an event for everyone!
Looking for an event that’s a little more hoppy? Come to town when The Monument is hosting the Mountain West Beer Fest! During this beer festival, anyone over the age of 21 can enjoy sampling a selection of over 200 beer options from 50 different breweries! Other activities during this festival include Human Foosball (which is surprisingly fun), Beer Yoga and some intense games of Corn Hole which is also called Bags depending where you are from.
The Monument always focuses on bringing quality entertainment to the region, for 32 years they have provided a Broadway Series line-up featuring shows like Jersey Boys, Beautiful: The Carol King Show, and Kinky Boots along with classics like Beauty and Beast and the Sound of Music!
For the last 42 years The Monument has been the entertainment hub of the Black Hills, and it continues to grow. They are currently expanding with a new arena that will be completed in 2021 allowing for even bigger artists to make stop in Rapid City! The next few years will provide a new look and a whole new name for the facility. Whether it’s a concert, a play, a sporting event or a unique tradeshow or festival, indoor fun is right at your fingertips in Rapid City. See the schedule of events that will be happening this season and stay connected to see what the future has in store!
