Top Visitor Questions from 2018

Ever wonder what might be the most common questions asked from visitors? Well even if you weren’t you should still read this blog because I answer the most frequently asked visitor questions from 2018.

1. Where is a good place to eat?

This is a tough question because the answer varies depending on what kind of food you’re looking for or the time of day, and to be honest I am a creature of habit who typically eats at the same three restaurants. Rapid City has a lot of great food options located all over town. If you are looking to try something special to the area I would recommend somewhere that serves Buffalo or Chislic (deep fried cubed meat that is usually beef but can be lamb). To name a few places: Murphy’s Pub and Grill has a phenomenal Buffalo Meatloaf, or you can’t go wrong with a Buffalo Burger from the Colonial House or Firehouse Brewing Co., and I can’t leave out the Buffalo Rib-eye from Dakotah Steakhouse. Those are only a few options for a great meal in Rapid City. For more dinning suggestions while your visiting stop in to Visit Rapid City, or locals also LOVE to give suggestions if you ask around during your visit!

2. Where does the trolley pickup?

The City View Trolley is a narrated tour of the city that has a schedule of 16 designated stops. Passengers can board and exit the Trolley at any of the designated stops. However, the trolley will only pick up and drop off at these 16 stops, meaning you can’t flag it down somewhere else or ask to be dropped off at a 17th location. Some of these stops include The Berlin Wall/Memorial Park, The Journey Museum, Main Street Square, and Dinosaur Park. They have a complete list of stops on their website. Departures for the trolley are approximately every 60 minutes. Also know that the trolley only runs seasonally (June to the end of August).

3. What can I do within walking distance?

The walk-ability of our downtown is awesome. I always recommend visitors do the City of Presidents walking tour. This is a self-guided tour that leads you around the downtown area to meet life-sized statues of past presidents. It’s not only cool to see and take photos with each, but you also see so many of the downtown shops and features along the way! Other things you can do in walking distance is visit local shops like Prairie Edge Trading Co. or Roam’n Around to get ready for your outdoor activities. Perhaps your more into the arts and culture of the area, you can walk right over to The Dahl Arts Center, Bonzeye Studio, or the Lakota Dream Museum & Monument. Downtown also features two local breweries, a winery, and a distillery all just blocks from each other.

4. What can I do downtown?

Shop, eat, drink, learn, oh and play!

5. What is there to see and do in Rapid City?

Another big question. When visitors ask this I like to know what they are interested in first. Not everyone is looking for great hiking spots within the city, or want to see 100 mile views and seven dinosaurs, or to visit an exact replica of the Borgund Stavkirke chapel of Laerdal, Norway. Perhaps they don’t care to know that Rapid City has five fantastic breweries, a great local winery, a speakeasy, or a rooftop bar with specular views. They might not be into learning about the area and its culture at the museums, taking in local art at one of the galleries or walking down an alley full of colorful and expressive street art, or visiting a park full of characters from the stories of their childhood. But they could do all of the above in Rapid City.

6. What time do the Main Street Square fountains turn on?

10am.

And there you have it, the most frequently asked questions we received from visitors in 2018. If you are planning a visit to the area hopefully this helped answer some of your questions, if you still have some reach out to us at Visit Rapid City! Also – check out our visitor guide!
